IKEA!

Written 1/18:

Today was great because I got to take a special bus straight from the town center out to the "suburbs" (Uppsala isn't really big enough for suburbs but it was outside of the main city, out where the non-students live) where the IKEA store is. I don't know why they don't put one of these in Indy, it would be so cool. The store is huge and kind of like a Bed, Bath, and Beyond but the stuff is nicer yet less expensive. Now my apartment feels more like a home. I have sheets and a towel and cooking utensils/dishes! Luckily, Natalee's buddy Lovisa came with us and helped us figure out what things are. The Swedes make their beds differently than we do so it's hard to find just like a set of sheets/pillow cases like we can. Jenny and I seem to get along really well; she kept asking my opinions on sheets and stuff and we found these 6 packs of plastic dishes (technically for kids but the colors are so fun!) that were really inexpensive so we decided to split a set of dishes, cups, and silverware. I need to find the regular bus that goes out there so I can go back because there is more stuff I want to get since it wasn't as expensive as I thought it was going to be, slightly less than $200 for everything which was a lot- almost too much because like at the grocery store, you bring your own bag or buy one. They have these huge bags you can buy; I got two so now I can use one as a laundry bag and the other to go to the grocery store maybe. I say maybe because I had to walk from the center of town back to my apartment after the bus dropped me off which was difficult because the handles on the bag aren't quite long enough to go over your shoulder if the bag is really full so the bags kept slipping around and were awkward. Luckily I met a Finnish exchange student who lives in the building next to me, Satu, and we walked home together and she eventually helped me carry stuff because I was going so slow. Once I finish decking out my room I'll post pictures.
