I've used up all of my flickr space for the month and I've added a few new pictures.
Since last I wrote, I experienced Swedish food! Sausage and mashed rutabaga and apple cake at Kalmar. Fika at Värmlands with consisted of a tomato and mozzarella sandwich, banana chocolate cake, and coffee. Fika is the Swedish art of sitting around talking while eating pasteries and drinking coffee. Also I went to another dinner "party" in the building next to mine where two Italian guys made pasta and köttbullar (Swedish meatballs). Plus I bought Swedish chocolate and these pasteries that looked liked ice cream cones covered in chocolate and coconut and were stuffed with marshmellow cream for Jan's birthday party on Sunday. I also went to the grocery store again, this time with my new German friends from my building- Mareen and Maik (said "Mike"). Maik also introduced me to räksallad, a sort of sandwich spread/picnic salad (like potato salad in the States) made with shrimp, when he made smørsgasbord (open-faced "sandwiches" with seafood and pickles and other spreads) for the pitch-in last Tuesday. I also love the peanut butter here (whole peanut, no added sugar or perservatives) and the yogurt (low-fat with whole blueberries and able to be drank as a smoothie).
I have a new teacher this week in class, survived my first problem set (hours later), no longer have Friday completely off of class, finally have money in my Swedish account, and need to pay rent. In two weeks I'll probably go to Stockholm with a bunch of people. We would go this coming weekend but Cenda will be in Lithuania.
Oh and because I told him I would, here is a quote from Cenda describing the refreshments served at the Chancellor's reception tonight (sipping sherry and potato chips): "It's post-modern".
